Liam is a psychotherapist and Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
Liam has supported clients with mental health concerns in community and hospital settings since 2018.
Liam has worked with adults, LGBTQ+ individuals, diverse ethno-racial individuals and people experiencing a range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, relationship concerns, grief, sexual orientation and gender identity, sexual health concerns and HIV/AIDS.
Liam works from a trauma-informed, client-centered, and anti-oppressive framework. He employs an eclectic therapeutic approach, combining elements of CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy), DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy), EFT (emotion-focused therapy) and mindfulness to help his clients examine their issues and find solutions to their problems in an affirming and supportive space.
His strengths are his empathetic and intuitive nature, and his commitment to client-centered, anti-oppressive counselling. He aims to empower his clients with the tools and perspectives to identify their issues and work towards resolving them.
Liam works collaboratively with clients to ensure that the right approach is used to address their concerns. He believes -- and research shows -- that the strength of the therapeutic relationship greatly influences treatment success. As such, Liam stays attuned to the relationship between himself and the client, and sees the client as the expert in their own life, and himself as a facilitator to new ideas and new ways of being.
Liam holds a Masters of Social Work (Mental Health Specialization) and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Equity Studies, both from the University of Toronto. He also has a certificate in the Foundations of Applied Mindfulness Meditation from the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies.
Liam has volunteered extensively in the LGBTQ+ community to support initiatives related to mental health, sexual health and community organizing.
